Your computer can help you check your spelling, but how do you check your writing? Grammarly’s writing app makes sure everything you type is easy to read, effective, and mistake-free. Grammarly automatically detects grammar, spelling, punctuation, word choice and style mistakes in your writing. In addition, Grammarly is able to check the tone of your correspondence, provide synonym suggestions to make your text more readable and precise, and even check your documents for plagiarism. With Grammarly, you can rest assured that your writing is always held to the highest standard.

Grammarly’s algorithms flag potential issues in the text and suggest context-specific corrections for grammar, spelling and usage, wordiness, style, punctuation, and even plagiarism. Grammarly explains the reasoning behind each correction, so you can make an informed decision about whether, and how, to correct an issue.

HOW TO REQUEST & ACTIVATE A PREMIUM GRAMMARLY ACCOUNT

Please note!  that you do not have to download and install Grammarly prior to sending a request to Learn for the premium version of Grammarly.

Step 1:

  • Email learn@ukzn.ac.za with “Grammarly” in the subject line of the email. All requests must be sent from a valid UKZN email address.

Step 2:

An ICS consultant will reply with the information shown below:

Check your inbox to find the email titled Invitation to join Grammarly/ Welcome to Grammarly Business! and click Activate My Account/Accept Invitation

    • If you’re a new user, you’ll be prompted to enter your name and UKZN LAN login details to create a Premium account.
    • If you already have an account, you’ll be prompted to re-login to it to complete the activation process.
    • If you have not received an invitation email, please add the following email addresses to your email contact.

      info@send.grammarly.com

      donotreply@grammarly.com

Step 3:

  • The ICS consultant will then send a request to Grammarly on your behalf, you will receive the email below from Grammarly . Once you receive the email from Grammarly, Click Join Now.
  • Links are only valid for 48 hours.

Step 4:

  • Your UKZN Student/Staff email address will be displayed, enter your LAN password, click Continue.


Step 5:

  • Your account is now activated. Click Join the Team OR Maybe Later according to your preference.

Step 6:

  • You will automatically be signed in to Grammarly and will see “EDU” which confirms that your account has been successfully activated.

Step 7:

  • Click Apps , then click install next to Grammarly for windows for your personal computer or any of the other options shown, based on what you require.

Step 8:

  • Click on the GrammarlySetup.exe file once the download is complete.

Step 9:

  • Click continue to Grammarly

Step 10:

  • Click open Grammarly on any one of the options shown below.

Step 11:

  • Open Microsoft Word, Click Open Gramarly on the extreme right

Step 12:

  • Click on the Grammarly tab to access, you can now view issues found by Grammarly as well as turn on the plagiarism option.

Step 13:

  • Issues found, as well as the plagiarism percentage, will be displayed in the Grammarly window.

Step 14:

  • You may also use Grammarly when writing an email.

FAQ's

I receive an error when I click on the activation link (Oops, something went wrong)
  • The activation link is only valid for 48 hours, email learn@ukzn.ac.za to resend the link.
I have changed devices and need a new invitation.
  • Go to grammarly.com login using the credentials you used initially and follow steps 6-14 of this guide
